As Busy as Busy Builders Can Be
August 19, 2020This is what happened when I had an idea.
Starbucks, 2007
While working in Delray Beach, Florida, the nearest coffee shop to me was two blocks off in Boca Raton — home to bagels, lox, east coast retirees . . . and, yes, a country club and golf course on every corner.
I’d walk over in the a.m., pick up my usual vente coffee with cream and sit outside.
The table-talk surrounding me was beyond intriguing
Table One: two septagenarians, man and woman, well-coiffed, well-heeled and well-dressed, dripping with jewelry, on their first “date” . . . which amounted to exchanging financial portfolios and discussing the merits of enjoying each other’s company after signing the equivalent to a pre-nup . . . I kid you not.
Table Two: one retired but not so retiring female New Yawker with one yappy Shih tzu. Waiting for her daily meet-up, her personal trainer, a 20-something buff boy.
Table Three: mother 65+ sitting with 30+ daughter, exchanging their weekly “male companionship” stories.
Starbucks, 2016
California. More palm trees.
On my way to the office, I pick up my still-usual vente coffee with cream and sit outside.
The table-talk surrounding me was non-existent
Table One: 70+ female pouring over her kindle.
Table Two: 4 very young, very rugged firemen, pouring over their smart phones, texting, emaling, yadda yadda.
Table Three: 60-ish female . . . Sitting . . . Waiting. For some one or some thing, apparently . . . Then a 40-ish female arrives to pick up her monthly stipend. Says thanks and goodbye “Mom” . . . clearly leaving behind one very disappointed 60-ish Mother.
That’s when I had an idea
That idea was not . . . to become one of those table talk, mother daughters.
That idea was . . . to create something . . . worthy of reviving table-talk, between mother and daughter.
That idea was . . . to create, graphics and all, another personal blog . . . .
“The Two Peas in a Pod”
So much fun working on my very first animated video. Stay tuned . . . .
Sidebar: My daughter moved on from our roomie-home-sharing arrangement, became an International Toastmaster extraordinaire, and has been leading her own blog-worthy life with husband, Nathaniel. I retired the Two Peas in 2019. Sigh.
