The following DIY clip introducing the sworak.com brand is from a video published in my first interactive ebook, “Business as Usual is Cancelled,” a business case for business planning in a digital world. As a small business owner and advocate of most things digital, I operate from the premise that we should be keeping pace with — if not surging ahead of — consumer electronic and mobility expectations.

This rings especially true in the wake of an abrupt paralysis of “business as usual.”

In addition to the obvious deviation from conventional operational practices, businesses have amped up their monetization models and marketing strategies with . . . .

Video content

To suggest that video marketing is a passing fad, here are some stats to prove otherwise.

  • “With an 80% rise in (video) content consumption since the corona virus pandemic, video watchtimes are expected to reach a 100-minute day benchmark. But brands willing to invest in video should adapt their strategies to match the new customer and the so-called ‘new normal'”. (Source: ClickZ, August 24, 2020)
  • “By 2022, an estimated 82% of all content creation will be video – 15 times higher than it was in 2017″. (Source: cielo24, July 24, 2020)
  • 62% of U.S. shoppers say they shop online more now than Pre-COVID”. (Source: Influencer MarketingHub, September 23, 2020)

Low-budget videos have really caught on probably because they’re not slick and polished; just ordinary people reaching out with their product to other ordinary people.

This from Forbes dated May 2020 . . . .

  • “Video is the most likely content to go viral . . . Okay so you’re not Budweiser or Oreo . . . As a business, you need to realize: the marketing investments you make right now may not pay off in terms of sales. That’s why it’s so important to keep your budget in mind. Rather than creating huge studio numbers, use real people. Use Insta-stories. Film things on your phone and use software like iMovie to edit it” (Source: Forbes, May 13, 2020)
Which is why

After learning so much about producing my video, I thought it would be useful to launch a series talking about DIY-everything-video-for-beginners-on-a-budget. Things like . . .

  • Pre-production tips: figuring out your audience and the purpose of your video; crafting your message, content strategy and script; identifying your brand elements; considering videos for each stage of the marketing funnel; setting the stage; technical considerations (lighting, audio and equipment); and free resources.
  • Post-production tips: choosing a video editing program; formatting for social media; search engine optimization (SEO); website options; promotion; and more free resources.
Rather than a pop-up-or-down-call-to-action (this time)
